Most people start out scrapbooking with very simple layouts and of course limited tools. Scrapbooking is very expensive and it takes a long time to build up your tools and learn how to use them effectively.
This kit by Making Memories is a nice comprehensive kit to take your scrapbooking to the next level and expand your creativity and includes 33 pieces. Here are some of the items included:
Ink (black and brown), 3 Stains
I make a lot of mini albums and ink is as essential for me as paper. Inking not only gives you a beautiful aged look, it also gives you a uniformity that brings the whole album together (in the same way using coordinated papers does). Brown ink is my most commonly used, but you'll find you really expand your repertoire once you get a feel for inking (such as a reddish brown for Christmas, a light blue for a baby boy album). Inking is also great when paired with patterns and embossing to enhance the depth of the embossing.
Sanding Block and Emery Boards, Sanding Files
With a little practice, distressing can look fantastic and enhance an antique look. I recently went to a class where everyone was making a vintage Christmas album (vintage papers were big this year) and everyone was passing around the sanding block that only one person at the table had thought to bring. The coordinated paper and sticker set from Bo Bunny was beautiful, but the stickers were a little shiny and didn't look quite right with the vintage inked papers. Once everyone saw how naturally the sticker fit on the page after she had sanded it, everyone followed suit.
Emery boards and sanding files are great as well and especially useful when you embellish chipboard with patterned paper. Once you glue the paper onto the chipboard, you just sand the paper away and match the edge of the paper to the edge of the chipboard. I'll attach a picture that uses both the ink and sanding.
Effects Paints
You can really have fun with these! You get pearlized, glittery, and clear paints. Use them on paper, flowers, embellishments, anything to add pizzazz. Use it consistently and it again can tie your pages together.
You have a couple of other items here as well, including an edger and brushes. So this is really a great experimentation kit to give a try and it will lead you in new directions.
