If you're looking for a set for learning basic skills, you will be happier with less expensive W&N Cotman sets. If you're an experienced watercolorist who needs ongoing supplies of the highest quality, you can find many W&N artist-grade watercolor sets that are both more affordable and more practical. Though useful, there is nothing utilitarian about this particular set. Clearly, it is not intended for mainstream artists.
So who is this set intended for? It's for someone who has enough experience to know the value of Winsor and Newton's top-grade paints, who loves beautiful and historically-resonant presentation, and who is interested in art tools that are in themselves works of exquisite craftsmanship.
You don't need this, but if you can afford it it's certainly a beautiful set to aspire to.
